Having a 9-5 job requires showing up to the office in a presentable way. In this post, I will be sharing what I think are the work wardrobe must-haves.
We will be drilling this down into the nitty-gritty basics of what really makes up a work wardrobe.
- White button down shirt
You cannot go wrong with a white button down shirt. This is one of the most important basics that you need to have because it goes with a lot of things. You can mix and match this with different bottoms, wear it as is or wear it underneath a blazer.
Since you are in a professional setting, I suggest to get the one that aren’t see through. Get a nice good quality fabric, high opacity, solid white color and make sure to get the long-sleeves one with buttons. I guarantee you that this is one of the best investments you’ll buy because you’ll get a good use out of it.
- Basic Tee
Basic tee will serve as your everyday shirt which you can wear when you feel like showing up in a more casual look. You can also wear this underneath a blazer or with a trouser and it will still look as professional.
I love sweaters! This is essential as most of the offices have their AC on full swing. I suggest you to get a sweater that is more classy and dressy. Choose one that is easier to layer.
You need to have a good and comfortable trousers. I personally like to wear trousers for my bottoms because it’s easier to move and they look professional and appropriate. I feel like I am more presentable when I’m wearing a good quality trousers. Find a pair that would suit your body type well and go for neutral colors like black, navy blue and khaki. It’s classic.
- Pencil Skirt
If you want to look more dressier and put together, a pencil skirt is the way to go. Make sure to choose one that is appropriate for office. Knee-length, not too showy, enough room for walking and not too fitted.
Blazer ties your entire work wear. Go for a tailored one that does not make you look too puffy or boxy. Blazer looks great on top of dresses too.
A classic chic dress is a must in your wardrobe. Choose a dress that has appropriate neckline and length. Dress is your go-to during those days when you are running late or too lazy to put together a work OOTD.
Same with your outfits, your bag should also be on the more professional side of the spectrum. I like bringing satchel and tote bags. I found a great site that has tons of bag choices that you may want to check out. It’s called the Baginning. What a witty name right? Choose a bag that could hold your everyday work essentials. Stylish, durable and sturdy is the way to go.

You need to secure a pair of nude pumps if you work in the office. This is very useful especially if you have an important meeting to attend to or a presentation. Nude are my pick because they go well with every color of your outfit.
Accessories are optional but they really spice up your outfit. Gold hoops and necklaces looks so good for an everyday look.
That would be it for your work wardrobe must-haves. You can use all these basics to mix and match. Make sure that the color palette you will choose for your work outfits work together. I would say neutral color is always the way to go. A pop of color every now and then wouldn’t hurt also. Just always make sure that what you wear is work appropriate.
I hope this post has been helpful! 🙂
